DION LEE AT MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK

Not all of us know that Dion Lee is this year’s official Mercedes-Benz designer, having a huge opening event in Australia with his Resort 2018 line. As a matter of fact, Dion, being just 31 years old, was the first in history to stage a show at the Sydney Opera House in 2010. This year too, he presented his collection outside the patio of Sydney Opera House. We got to see a lot of experimentation taken from his side which made it seem that Dion had quite a fun time creating this line. Unlike what many of us feel that flip flops are very informal, Dion paired them with anything and everything. The flip flops were thick-soled and trimmed by an elastic cable looking all sporty but on suits, skirts, and dresses. Models were seen mostly wearing monochromatic outfits as a contrast to the outdoor set. This time, his line evokes relaxed cuts, towels and bathrobes converted into a coat or a skirt. Dion stated, “Garments are engineered in a way that both enhances the silhouette and explores volume. The venue inspired a play on reflectivity and being a resort show, many of the fabrics enable the flow of air and light.”
