ACCENTUATE THOSE SHOULDERS

Many of us feel that accentuated shoulders look too manly, but we forget the fact that there are certain reasons that can be advantageous to our looks as well. Such as accentuated shoulders make the waist line look slimmer as the whole attention falls on the shoulder. If we go back, during 1930 to 1945, designers like Elsa Schiaparelli and Joan Crawford flaunted them in the film, “Letty Lynton.” At the beginning they had this semicircle or small triangle shape and were stuffed with wool, cotton or sawdust. After World War II, women’s wardrobe became more military-inspired such as jackets, coats, and dresses in more masculine styles. Soon after that accentuated shoulders became universal and all the garments except lingerie had them. Fall 2017 brings to us quite a number of these such as Mugler’s pantsuits or Alexander McQueen’s more relaxed looks.
