Folds, tucks, creases, gathers, and crimps are just a few words that define pleats. The art of pleating is a definite A-lister for this winter, seen in many different ways and by various top designers. It was Alessandro Michele who created the pleated midi skirt and lacy underwear combination such an attractive look that many get inspired by. Some of these designers who have beautifully played with pleats in their collections are: Gucci, Arthur Arbesser, Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo, Jil Sander and Tod’s. Gucci for instance worked around multiple colourful layers of pleats, while Jil Sander proved how stunning pleats can look on the sides of the silhouettes. At Paris Fashion Week, plisse pleats added so much elegance to the winter lines by Dior with an array of finale dresses made from folding and cutting micro-pleats. Also, Iris Van Herpen constructed light-weight dresses with tiny folds and J. Mendel’s heavy beaded gowns were finished with these plisse bounces in rainbow shades.
