Proenza Schouler's Deconstructive Nature

When it comes to minimalist yet classy ready-to-wear collections this season, Proenza Schouler ranks at one of the top fashion houses in the industry. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez continue to offer something refreshing and elegant but this time with a touch of simplicity. What people considered as deconstructive pieces were skilfully paired up with layered fabrics and ornamented laces. Deconstructivism is a natural development of postmodern architecture of the Fifties, and reflected in fashion as tight waistlines and geometrical cuts that create a balance accentuating the figure, reducing the bare skin’s proportions and working around the aesthetics with cut-outs and lateral slits. If it is not focused on the tight waistlines, the waist drops to the lower waist area and creates a twenties-inspired look that were also visible in Proenza Schouler’s latest ready-to-wear line. Other features seen in this show were plunging V-necklines likely to be seen in jumpsuits, and layered with long-sleeved shirts underneath them. The audience noticed bursts of colors like yellow and red, otherwise there was continuous focus on blacks, whites, beiges on various fabrics, from sleek fabrics to silky ones. Among sophisticated gowns and loose-fitted pants, parted jackets caught the most attention as it very much complimented this season.
