Knife It Up

The most incredible part of a fabric is that it can be manipulated and texturized in different ways and techniques. Some are more vulnerable than others depending on factors such as durability, weight, shrinkage, elasticity, the thread count, and amount of starch in it. In this case, knifed up fabrics look very stunning as they are durable, elegant, and can create really interesting ensembles. This season, many collections were knifed up such as the hemlines on Emilio Pucci’s dresses. The hacked up outfits at Each X Other, Anthony Vaccarello’s assymetric skirts and Vionett’s fascinating designs. Some more designers that used knife pleats in their collections were Boss, Tome, Proenza Schouler and Altuzarra. What really works about the retro texture this season is that it makes the ensembles look more feminine and glamorous and can be worn as a daytime summer dress or a classy evening dress, depending on the color. If you want to wear one during the evening, you should make sure to select a bold solid color rather than a pastel which is more suitable during the daytime.
