Puff Me Up With Old English Sleeves

In SS16, you will find a lot attention given to the sleeves with the off-shoulder sleeves and Old English sleeves. The latter are all puffed up that creates a very sophisticated appeal but with an edgy look such as the black pieces at The Row. This look has been conceptualized by the Victorian and Romantic Era. Victorian influences from the 60’s and 70’s with dainty floral prints, high-collar necklines and longer hemlines with bulging sleeves were predominant in recent spring summer collections. Many different styles of these Old English sleeves appeared in shows from Erdem, J.W. Anderson, and Simone Rocha’s black and white collections. You may wonder how to carry-off this look as you do not want to go over the top so here are some tips: opt for a frilly style blouse with a ruffled neckline and linear lace details. You can blend it with cropped flares, a suede trench and patent loafers. Otherwise, you can tone it down a bit by wearing it with an A-line skirt or high-waisted denims to give it a more casual appearance. Basically the whole idea is letting the focus remain on the puffy sleeves and keeping the remaining of the outfit as minimal as possible as too much will just ruin the look.
