The Chintz Effect

As it appears, there are loads of different prints moving around this spring and following onto this summer. One of them being chintz prints of all sorts. Not many people know that chintz prints originated from glazed calico textiles made in India itself. This spring they include the Victorian outgrowth of Chintz and the large poppies seen in New York. It was quite a trend at the London Fashion Week, focusing on tiny flowers and softer designs such as in Markus Lupfer and Topshop’s collections. While known for her eccentric yet interesting style, Vivienne Westwood created stunning button-down outfits for the Vivienne Westwood Red Label. Emilia Wickstead’s line had more abstract designs with contrasting clear florals and following the trendy off-shoulder look, designers such as Jonathan Saunders and Temperley London beautifully merged in with the chintz effect.
