Addicted To Black

Summer is just around the corner but who would expect to introduce black again this spring. Many well-known designers focused on black tailoring in diverse ways which resulted in quite a glorious manner. Black is a universal colour that is not time-bound by fashion or an occasion because it can be worn any time of the year to go casual or formal. Three striking styles were seen within this black trend across the runway: the peek-a-boo black, the sheer layering black and the black night. Peek-a-boo black is another way to explain how designers created cuts and silhouettes to show a lot of skin on this versatile colour. David Koma, Julien MacDonald, Amanda Wakeley, Burberry and Versus were some of the many designers that showed full sight of legs and shoulders in their black collections. A lot of detailing was done on body suits, cut outs, translucent organza, chiffon, lace, the spider web mesh look, and see-through black. For a bit more conservative mind, the sheer layering black is perfect as you can show a bit of your skin and still be covered up. While Zimmerman’s collection created a more Victorian feel, Rodarte evoked a more contemporary twist to his outfits. And as mentioned in one of my prior blogs, many designers have used innerwear as outerwear so this time fashion houses like Calvin Klein, Celine, Haider Ackermann, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, and Balenciaga used black lingerie as street wear to expand on the entire black night look. What you should remember is that black also plays a very important role in women’s psychology as we feel confident, powerful and sexy bearing in mind that black is a safe color that can never go wrong and will make you look slimmer.
