Let's Wear It Inside Out!

Have you ever felt like wearing your undergarments on top of your clothes? This spring is emerging with a new trend where underwear is worn as outerwear. You may wonder how it may look or what message it is carrying out, but it seems to be quite an inspiring feature on the runway. This was first seen in the new Givenchy advertising campaign where eight models wore lace-edged, spaghetti-strapped, lingerie-inspired outfits. There are some people who consider this a sexy way to dress while there are others who believe it to look hideous. As we all know there is a silver lining between looking classy and a stripper, it’s all dependent on how designers compose different fabrics, textures and cuts and how well you can carry that off. For instance, you might have notices bralettes placed over sheer long-sleeve tops in Dries Van Noten’s collection. Or Alberta Ferreti’s bedroom meets club bed look, where she has used bold colors with soft girlish silhouettes. One very smart thing that Derek Lam did was making his models wear undershirts with plunging necklines and a crochet body over the formal shirts and pants, both of which focus on the contrast-stitching trend. This lingerie-inspired effect was also seen present in collections by Gucci, N 21, Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, and Fausto Puglisi, among others.
