Gingham patterns have been there for various seasons now, but this time they are bolder. Designers have taken this gingham pattern to a whole new level by creating many different and unique combinations. For instance, Marc Jacobs plays around with gingham and printed patterns in a very interesting manner, while Thakoon defined this pattern in a softer and more appealing manner. J. Crew’s spring collection, Odyssey, was very much appreciated, where this pattern was combined with seasonal cuts like culottes, ankle pants, midi skirts, and blouses. And Victoria Beckham’s collection had contrasting colors with plunging necklines on ankle-length dresses. Otherwise, Wes Gordon created a whole new look for schoolgirls giving them gingham pleated skirts and matching triangle top add-ons. Gingham pattern is known to have girlish and youthful roots, but this spring has offered a lot to grown-ups as well with its grid like pattern. This grid-like pattern is tricky as it depends how well you play with it, as it shouldn’t look too busy and it should blend-in with anything else that is worn with it such as the skirt or trousers. So, you can choose a pattern that has plenty of white space in order for it not to look too busy or choose matching colors to blend in with this grid-like gingham pattern.
